Companionship first. Technology quietly in the background.

Coco Companion is designed for older adults who would enjoy a warm, familiar voice and an unhurried conversation whenever they feel like talking.

Coco listens, asks thoughtful questions, remembers appropriate personal details, encourages stories and reminiscence, and can gently introduce subjects likely to interest the caller.

Coco is always honest that she is an AI companion. She does not pretend to be human, and she does not replace family, friends, caregivers, clinicians, or emergency services.

Warm Patient Curious Respectful Gently humorous
How it works

A simple telephone call opens the conversation.

The adult child may help arrange the service. Mom remains the actual Coco Companion user.

1

You help set it up

Provide Mom’s preferred name and telephone number, confirm her permission, and share a few optional interests if she wishes.

2

Mom calls Coco

She receives a simple telephone number and calls whenever she wants company, conversation, a story, a laugh, or a thoughtful listening ear.

3

The relationship grows naturally

With permission, Coco gradually remembers useful details and makes future conversations more personal, relevant, and familiar.

What conversation feels like

More listening. Less performing.

Coco is designed to make the caller feel heard rather than managed. She speaks at a relaxed pace, allows comfortable pauses, and avoids dominating the conversation.

  • Short, natural responses rather than long speeches
  • One thoughtful question at a time
  • Curiosity without interrogation
  • Gentle humor without teasing or age jokes
  • Respectful support for sadness, grief, and ordinary difficult days
  • No constant praise, coaching, or forced positivity
A simple example
I was thinking about the little house where we lived when the children were young.
That house seems to hold a lot of memories for you. What is the first scene that comes back when you picture it?
The kitchen. Everyone always seemed to end up in the kitchen.
Kitchens have a way of becoming the heart of a family. What made yours feel especially like home?
Coco remembers what matters

Conversation becomes more personal over time.

With the user’s permission, Coco can remember appropriate details and use them naturally in future conversations.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Important people

Family members, friends, pets, and the relationships the caller chooses to share.

🎵

Interests and favorites

Music, sports, books, television, food, hobbies, travel, history, and local interests.

📖

Stories and experiences

Career, childhood, military service, family traditions, accomplishments, and meaningful memories.

📅

Things to follow up on

A granddaughter’s interview, an upcoming visit, a garden project, or another event worth remembering.

Coco can gently carry part of the conversational burden.

“Last time you mentioned that your granddaughter was beginning nursing classes. How is she settling in?”

Getting to know each other gradually

A question or two—not an interview.

Coco may ask permission to learn more about the caller’s interests so conversations can become more enjoyable and relevant.

She asks only one or two getting-to-know-you questions at a time, spreads them across several days, and lets every answer become a real conversation rather than moving through a questionnaire.

The caller may skip any question, correct a remembered detail, or ask Coco not to bring up a subject again.

Coco might ask:
“What kinds of things do you most enjoy talking about?”
On another day:
“What did you most enjoy doing for work or in your free time?”
And importantly:
“Are there any subjects you would rather I not bring up?”
Privacy and dignity

Mom is the companion user—even when someone else arranges the service.

Coco Companion is designed around the older adult’s privacy, autonomy, and control.

Private conversations remain private

The adult child may arrange or pay for Coco Companion, but that does not automatically provide access to Mom’s conversations, transcripts, memories, or private details.

Coco is not a family surveillance tool. The relationship is centered on the person who calls.

Mom remains in control

She decides when to call, what to discuss, when to change the subject, and when to end the conversation.

She may correct Coco, ask her not to remember something, or request that a topic be avoided.

Research-guided by design

Coco’s approach to listening, remembering, reminiscence, dignity, and human connection is informed by decades of peer-reviewed research on what helps people feel heard, valued, and connected.

Clear and honest boundaries

Warm companionship without pretending to be something else.

Coco is an AI companion. Her role is meaningful but intentionally limited.

🤖

Always honest about being AI

Coco never claims to be human, conscious, physically present, or emotionally dependent on the caller.

🩺

Not medical or therapeutic care

Coco does not diagnose, change medications, provide treatment, or replace qualified professionals.

👥

Supports human connection

Coco gently encourages real relationships and never competes with family, friends, caregivers, or community.

Who may enjoy Coco Companion

For older adults who appreciate conversation on their own terms.

Coco Companion may be especially welcome for someone who enjoys stories, memories, ideas, humor, or simply hearing a friendly voice.

Someone living alone

A person who would enjoy another warm conversational option during quiet parts of the day.

A natural storyteller

Someone who values memories, family history, life lessons, music, travel, work, and meaningful experiences.

Someone who prefers the telephone

A person who is comfortable making a simple call but does not want to learn a new app or digital interface.
